Where Stress Lives in the Body And How the Breath Can Help
There was a time when I thought stress only lived in the mind.
I believed if I could just think differently, stay positive, or “move on” from certain experiences, my body would eventually follow.
But over time, I began to realise something deeper: the body remembers what the mind tries to forget.
Stress, anxiety, grief, fear, pressure, past experiences…
they don’t simply disappear because time passes.
They can stay stored within the body:
in the breath,
the nervous system,
the muscles,
the belly,
the jaw,
the chest.
And often, we continue living from those patterns without even noticing.
My journey began with yoga.
Yoga became the doorway that first helped me reconnect with my body, slow down, and breathe differently.
Through movement and breath awareness, I began noticing subtle shifts within myself a calmer nervous system, a softer body, more emotional awareness, and moments of feeling truly present again.
And from there, I discovered the profound effects of breathwork.
What began as simple awareness of the breath slowly became something much deeper.
Breathwork helped me access parts of myself I had disconnected from for years.
It helped me understand how emotions, tension, and past experiences can continue living within the body long after the moment has passed.
Through the breath, I began softening layers of protection and survival patterns connected to childhood experiences and emotional holding.
Not all at once. But gently, breath by breath.
What I experienced was not only emotional release but a deeper connection to myself, my body, and the way I move through life.
I began noticing it in simple moments:
tightness in my chest,
a guarded stomach,
shallow breathing,
difficulty fully relaxing,
always feeling like I needed to hold everything together.
The breath showed me what I had been carrying. And gently, over time, it also helped me release.
Not all at once.
Not dramatically.
But layer by layer.
This is something I now witness so often in both yoga and breathwork spaces:
people arriving thinking they are simply “stressed,” but underneath there is exhaustion, pressure, emotional holding, grief, fear, or years of living in survival mode.
The nervous system adapts to whatever it experiences repeatedly.
And sometimes the body forgets what safety feels like.
This is why breath matters so deeply.
The way we breathe directly affects the nervous system.
When stress or anxiety are present, the breath often becomes shallow, fast, held, or restricted.
The body prepares itself for protection.
But when we begin slowing the breath…
softening the exhale…
creating awareness…
the body receives a different message.
A message of safety.
And from that place, emotions can begin to move differently too.
This is why I often say:
the breath is not just changing oxygen levels, it is changing our internal state.
In my Breath Reset sessions, we work gently and practically with the breath:
learning techniques to calm the nervous system,
support emotional balance,
improve awareness,
and create more space within the body.
These sessions are grounded, accessible, and designed for everyday life.
The current Breath Reset series includes:
Breath Reset — Sleep & Deep Rest
A calming session designed to support relaxation, nervous system recovery, and deeper rest.
Through grounding breath practices and gentle regulation techniques, we create the conditions for the body to soften, unwind, and move toward a more restful state, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Because sometimes exhaustion is not only physical.
Sometimes the nervous system has simply forgotten how to fully rest.
Breath Reset — Emotional Balance
What if there was a space… between what you feel and how you respond?
A space where the breath guides you back to calm, clarity, and choice.
This session is where that begins.
Emotions move through the body constantly, yet many of us were never taught how to truly regulate them.
Instead, we suppress, react, disconnect, overthink, or carry tension silently within the nervous system.
Through gentle yet practical breathing techniques, this session invites you to slow down and become more aware of your internal state.
Together we explore how the breath can help:
regulate emotional overwhelm
calm reactivity and stress responses
create more space before reacting
reconnect to the body with awareness
support nervous system balance and emotional clarity
This is not about avoiding emotions.
It’s about learning how to stay connected to yourself while moving through them.
But breath can also take us deeper.
In transformational somatic breathwork, the breath becomes a bridge into the subconscious layers of the body.
The places where emotions, tension, memories, and protective patterns may still be stored.
This deeper work is not about forcing release.
It is about creating enough safety for the body to soften what it has been holding.
Sometimes that looks like emotion.
Sometimes clarity.
Sometimes stillness.
Sometimes simply feeling connected to yourself again.
My upcoming transformational experiences include:
Unwinding the Body — A Transformational Somatic Breathwork Experience
Your body holds more than you realise.
Tension, emotions, and unprocessed experiences can stay stored within, creating patterns of holding, tightness, or disconnection.
This session is a powerful invitation to unwind.
Through guided somatic breathwork, you’ll be supported to:
release physical and emotional tension
reconnect with your body’s natural rhythms
move from contraction into openness
create space for clarity, softness, and balance
Embodied Breath — A Somatic Breathwork Experience
Transformation doesn’t end when something is released.
It continues in how it is felt, integrated, and lived in the body.
Embodied Breath is an invitation to move beyond release… and into a deeper connection with yourself.
Through guided somatic breathwork, you’ll be supported to slow down, reconnect with your body, and allow what has already shifted to settle and take form.
This is a space to land.
To feel.
To become.
For me personally, breathwork has helped liberate parts of myself that stayed hidden beneath years of tension and protection.
It helped me reconnect with emotions I had suppressed.
Helped me soften survival patterns I no longer needed.
Helped me feel more present in my body, my relationships, and within myself.
And that journey continues.
Because healing is rarely linear.
It unfolds slowly.
Through awareness.
Through safety.
Through breath.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, emotionally exhausted, or constantly holding tension in the body,
know that there is nothing “wrong” with you.
Your body may simply be asking to be listened to differently.
Sometimes the first step is not doing more.
Sometimes it is simply learning how to breathe again 🤍
Invitation
If this resonates with you, you’re warmly invited to join me at The OM Movement for one of my upcoming breathwork experiences.
A gentle space to slow down, breathe, and reconnect.
You’re also welcome to explore the 3 or 6 session breathwork packages, created for those wanting ongoing support and deeper integration through consistent practice.
These packages can be used across both the Breath Reset series and Transformational Somatic Breathwork experiences, allowing you to move at your own pace and choose the sessions that feel most supportive for your nervous system and personal journey.
Because sometimes healing is not found in one session alone but in creating space to return to yourself again and again. 🤍
